Plant Facts.

The nectar of most flowers is rich in sugar, vitamines, minerals and amino acids.  Pollen is rich in protien.

Plant wax is sometimes used in creating insect nests.

The rose was originally from china and is available in almost all colors except blue and black. Rose oil can reduce cholesterol levels, Rosa Rugosa contains high levels of vitamin C.

Low pollen sunflowers have been developed, which not only help asthma patients, but extend the life of the flowers. An adult Sunflower yields 40% of its weight in oil.

The Vanila flower is classified as an Orchid. The pods of this viney plant must be scalded, fermented, then dried and aged for 3 months to become the popular vanila flavoring that we know and use.

Orchids come in every color except for blue. 

The Opium Poppy is the source of familiar opiates (numbing drugs) such as Codeine or Morphine.

The Rafflesia Arnoldii is the biggest flower in the world, these flowers are often over 3ft wide and there petals are almost an inch thick. These flowers also smell like rotten meat.

Poison Ivy isn't Ivy, Poison Oak isn't Oak. Both are part of the cashew family.

Saguaros are a type of cacti that can grow to 60 ft and live up to 300 years, yet they don't grow distinctive arms till they are atleast 75 years old. They are only found in the Sonoran Desert in Southwest U.S.A.

The bark of an older redwood tree is almost fireproof. The Redwood's extremely high water content reduces the tree's susceptibility to fire.

Pine,Fir.,and Spruce tree needles are said to be a good source of vitamin C.

The Oak tree can take as long as 30 years to produce its first crop of acorns. 

After being planted a coffee bean takes 5 years to produce consumable fruit. A coffee tree produces about 1lb of coffee beans per year.

Gemstone Facts.

Aquamarine is Blue to Bluegreen Beryl.  The title indicates that the usual color of these stones resembles the color of the sea. This is a very familiar stone. This stone is mainly found in Brazil, Nigeria, Zambia, and Madagascar. These gemestones are Beryllium Aliminum Silicate Minerals.
 
Armetrin is a Quartz crystal that is both purple and citris (yellow-orange) in color. This crystal combines the colors of Citrine and Amethyst crystals.  Brazil is usualy the place to find this particular gemstone.
 
Diamonds are the hardest natural  substance on earth. They can't be disolved in acid, only intense heat will destroy them.
 
Citrine is a Quartz crystal that like it's name suggests is gold or yellow in color. Anchients believed that Citrine was a gift from the gods and a powerful antidote to the venom of a viper. The name is derived from the french word for lemon.  It's an alternate birthstone for November.
 
Opal is basicaly silicon dioxide,and water. These gems never form as crystals. These minerals maybe transparent, white, yellow,red, brown, green, blue, or gray. It's the petrifying material in much fossile wood.
 
Sapphires come in a close second to diamonds in terms of hardness. The blue sapphires are usualy the most sought after as blue is the main color of a sapphire. These gems belong to the Corundum group (gemstones that consist of alluminum oxide). It's comon to bake natural sapphires to improve there color.
